Sheffield United are proving all of their doubters wrong this season as they sit sixth in the Premier League despite being tipped for relegation by many.
Indeed, it’s tough to not be impressed by the Blades’ meteoric rise, and once again they’ve defied the odds by earning a draw against Arsenal on Saturday.
However, one man who wasn’t impressed by the Yorkshire club’s performance was their manager as he delivered a scathing review of his team’s performance for the majority of the match.
What’s been said then?
The boss spoke to Sky Sports after the game.
“We did it for the first ten minutes and we did it for the last ten minutes, but that bit in the middle I wasn’t too impressed by,” Wilder said on Sky Sports’ Gillett Soccer Saturday (18/1/20 5:40PM).
“We had a great opportunity to come here and win today, but the players never smelled it after the first ten minutes.
“They had two or three opportunities to go and stretch their lead, but we hung in there and got something from 20 minutes of football, which really isn’t enough if you want to go and win.
“We’ll take the draw and move on, but we’ve got to do a lot better than that.”
High expectations
You’ve got to love Wilder, haven’t you?
The majority of the teams in the Premier League would be over the moon with a draw at the Emirates as the Gunners boast a whole host of talent including Champions League and World Cup winners, but the Blades boss wasn’t happy to come away with just a point.
This is one reason why United have been so good this term, the manager instils such high expectations into them and they react to it.
Look at his reaction after Dean Henderson’s clanger against Liverpool. Rather than going in to bat for his goalie he publicly slated him, but it seems to have worked as he’s kept the joint-highest number of clean sheets in the league.
In other news, Sheffield United may be about to go against one of their values with this signing.
